In 1984 Le Guide de Charme first appeared. With its publication, a new concept in travel was invented, the Hôtel de Charme (Charming Hotels), a term which is now widely used in the press, by the public and hotel operators themselves.
This new edition lists over 597 establishments that have either passed our stringent requirements for the first time, or our on-going review process. Each guide's authors independently and rigorously carries out both processes.
Comfort, cleanliness, calm, environment, surroundings, service, appearance and atmosphere are all noted. These factors define that which is charming in holiday travel and allow us to select only the most charming establishments for you.
This year, only 45 new properties met our standards.
Each guide is complete and in-depth, updated each year thanks to the extensive work of its author. All details are verified, updated or corrected. Accuracy is guaranteed because the authors receive no compensation from the establishments they review. All visits and stays are unannounced.
Published in several languages, Le Guide des Hôtels et Auberges de Charme is read by over 500 000 travellers per year. Our guides also serve another important purpose - giving small and independent hotels the means to advertise. Who could be better equipped than an independent innkeeper to share his love and knowledge of the land with travellers ?
